We were very disappointed with our recent visit. I’ve been coming to Cayucos for over 25 + years and have eaten at the Sea Shanty a few times with family and friends. This was the first time I brought my children, and unfortunately, it left a poor impression. We came in for a late breakfast, just before lunch. The restaurant wasn’t crowded, and we were seated immediately. We placed our order around 11:00 a.m., but our food didn’t arrive until 11:58 a.m.—nearly an hour later. The biggest disappointment wasn’t just the wait, but the lack of service during that time. No one checked on our table, even though we watched staff stop by several surrounding tables. At one point, my husband had to get up and find someone just to get his drink refilled. To be fair, the food was good. However, everyone in our family agreed it wasn’t worth the long wait and lack of attention. What stood out the most was that my middle child noticed the poor service on her own and commented on it. When kids recognize they’re being overlooked, it’s never a good sign. I truly hope this was just an off day because we’ve had positive experiences here in the past. We stopped here in Cayucos for a late brunch before heading up PCH. When eating here, you get a sense of a strong supportive community. Both staff and locals seem knitted tightly together. It’s a nice welcoming for folks like us who were passing through the little town. A big smiling dog named Bear greets passers-by with a tailwag while walking down the sidewalk. They wove a lot of creativity and love into the restaurant with baseball caps decorating the ceiling and all of the crossstitch in the ladies’ bathroom. My husband and I shared a Cinnamon Roll. Warm icing oozes over it. Not for the faint of heart - it is SWEET! I had the Chorizo Breakfast Burrito and my husband had the Country Fried Steak. He is a stickler for hot food and his eggs came out cold. We thought the lovely people made our experience worthwhile.

Came here for the steak sandwich a year & a half ago (9/2024)... came here again for a last round or two of beer in prior weeks (3/2026). Can't go wrong with either...

Funky but lovely local restaurant full of characters and atmosphere uniquely old time California. I had a burger, the works with fries, Delicious! My friend had a dish of mushroom and sausage, outstanding!

Good job guys! We arrived on a Friday at 2pm we were seated right away. The food was good and fresh. Fish tacos Club sandwich Billy burger Fish and chips Clam chowder All great! Really enjoyed the onion rings, they had a good beer selection to go with. Our waiter and server were both very nice friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend checking them out, prices are fair for the area.
